11 Countries Take Part in Military Cyberwarfare Exercise

Recently, the largest military cyberwarfare exercise in Western Europe came to a close. The Defence Cyber Marvel 2 (DCM2) exercise, led by the British Army, saw a total of 34 teams from 11 countries compete in a live-fire cyber battle. The participating countries included the US, UK, Japan, India, Italy, Estonia, Ukraine, Ghana, Kenya and Oman, with 750 experts taking part from all over the world.

The seven-day event put the teams through a variety of cyber scenarios, including attacks on networks, industrial control systems (ICS) and uncrewed robotic systems. This latter scenario was based on tactics used by Russia in the early days of its invasion of Ukraine.

The teams were judged on their speed in identifying and responding to cyber threats. After the competition concluded, a team from Italy was declared the winner, followed by teams representing Estonia and the UK.

Overall, the DCM2 exercise was a huge success, showing the capabilities of Western Europe to defend against cyber-attacks. It also highlighted the need for continued education and training in the field of cybersecurity, to ensure that the region remains one step ahead of its adversaries.
