Cisco has announced plans to acquire Valtix, an early-stage Silicon Valley startup in the cloud network security business. Valtix emerged from stealth four years ago, having raised $26.5 million in venture capital financing. Cisco’s chief product officer Raj Chopra noted the Valtix technology fits into its vision to deliver “a global, cloud-delivered, integrated networking and security platform for organizations of any shape and size.” Valtix created a platform that provides automated cloud application discovery, security deployment, and application defense capabilities.
The acquisition fits into Cisco’s ambitions in the multi-cloud network security business and Chopra pinpointed the advantage of having technology to monitor traffic flowing through corporate applications. With Valtix, Cisco expects to be able to see all the traffic that flows between applications and from applications to users, allowing for consolidated, consistent security. Last January, Valtix said it scored customers in the financial services, government, healthcare, and retail sectors. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
Cisco’s acquisition of Valtix not only strengthens its cloud network security portfolio, but also adds valuable technology to monitor traffic flowing through corporate applications. This strategic move will provide Cisco with a comprehensive security platform to serve organizations of any size. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021 and Valtix will then be folded into Cisco’s Security Business Group.
