Real Talk with CCSPs: An Interview with Panagiotis Soulos

I was proud of that. I was also proud of the work I did in the banking sector. I was able to learn a lot, and I was able to help the company to move from one maturity level to a higher one in terms of cybersecurity.

Panagiotis, the Global Information Security Manager at Intrum, is a firm believer that cloud is the present and future of our lives, both in business and in our personal lives. He holds the Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) credential and has been working in the cybersecurity industry since 2004. We had the opportunity to learn more about his career and his views on why the CCSP certification is important for any cybersecurity professional.

He told us that he was first motivated to pursue cybersecurity while finishing his bachelor’s degree, when he was introduced to the concept of network security. His first job in the field was in the army, and then, in 2015, he moved into the cybersecurity team of a banking institution in Greece. He decided to focus on the security aspects because he wanted to further validate his skills. He earned his CISSP certification and then decided to pursue the CCSP qualification.

Panagiotis’s preparation for the CCSP exam was intense, taking six months in total. He used the official (ISC)² CCSP training package, preparation exam tests, and material from the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA). He made notes to help him remember the content, and then took four days off before the exam to focus on studying for 12-14 hours each day.

He was surprised by the depth of knowledge he gained from the course material, and also by how up to date the information was. It also changed the way he was reviewing cloud implementations and applications, and it helped him to get the CCSP certification. He believes that the credential is an asset that will serve cybersecurity professionals for years to come, as it is an advanced level certification that distinguishes them from other professionals.

Panagiotis recently moved internally in the group at Intrum to a new position as a leader of a team that will manage and create the formal security control framework. His ambitions for the future are to keep advancing in his career and become a Chief Information Security Officer. He also takes pride in the work he has accomplished, including his election as the Secretary of the (ISC)² Hellenic Chapter, and the cybersecurity awareness exercises he has been involved in for the general public.

Panagiotis’s journey demonstrates why the CCSP credential is important to any cybersecurity professional, and how it can help them to advance in their career. It is an asset that will serve them for years, and it is a validation of their skills that will help them to be distinguished from other professionals.
