The network security breach at Western Digital remains a significant issue.

On April 2, digital storage giant Western Digital (WD) announced a service outage impacting cloud, proxy, web, authentication, email, and push notification services, including My Cloud, My Cloud Home (Duo), My Cloud OS5, SanDisk Ibi, and SanDisk Ixpand Wireless Charger. The reason for the outage was a security breach on its network that was detected by the company.

The press release issued on April 3 stated that the company was responding to the incident with incident response efforts and an investigation with the help of outside security experts. The company is currently working on restoring impacted services and infrastructure, and determining the extent of the data compromised by the hackers.

SecurityWeek has reached out to Western Digital to find out if the attack involved ransomware and whether any customer information was compromised. At the time of writing, WD does not appear to be mentioned on the leak site of any major ransomware group. 

It is clear that Western Digital has taken the security breach seriously and is taking the necessary steps to protect its customers and data. The company has backed up its services with leading outside security and forensic experts and is currently in the process of restoring services and infrastructure.
