This March, Women’s History Month, we celebrated the groundbreaking work of women in the field of cybersecurity. From the trailblazing innovations of Ada Lovelace to the inspiring stories of the women in our (ISC)² community, we have had the opportunity to recognize their contributions to the industry.
The cybersecurity profession is rapidly changing and experiencing a demographic shift across the globe in age, gender, race and ethnicity. The most recent (ISC)² study found that women make up 30% of global cybersecurity workers under the age of 30, while they account for just 14% of those 60 or older. Additionally, women are still underrepresented in advanced, non-managerial positions, making up only 17% of the respondent base.
Unfortunately, 30% of women and 18% of non-white employees worldwide feel discriminated against at work. To help address this, organizations are investing in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. (ISC)² is working to help make a difference in this area.
The (ISC)² Women In Cybersecurity Scholarship is available to encourage and support women in the cybersecurity field with financial assistance. This scholarship is a great way to help close the gender gap and to open more doors for women in the industry.
In conclusion, although much progress has been made in the field of cybersecurity, there is still more work to be done to ensure that all genders, races, and backgrounds are represented and have the opportunity to succeed in the industry. (ISC)² is committed to supporting women in cybersecurity and all individuals in the industry through initiatives such as the Women In Cybersecurity Scholarship.
