FBI (and Others) Shut Down Genesis Market

The FBI and other law enforcement agencies across the world recently seized the bot shop Genesis Market. Active since 2018, Genesis Market sold bots with logs, cookies, and their real fingerprints with customers able to search for infected systems with a variety of options. With a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the FBI replaced the homepages of multiple domains associated with Genesis with a seizure notice. Along with the FBI, law enforcement entities from countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom are involved in the seizure and arrests of operators and suppliers of Genesis.

The investigation is still ongoing and the FBI has declined to comment, but sources close to the situation have confirmed that arrest warrants have been served. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin has yet to respond to requests for comment.

Genesis Market was a major hub for cybercrime and its shutdown is a major victory for law enforcement. It is a reminder that the fight against cybercrime is ongoing and that law enforcement agencies from multiple countries are working together to shut down these operations.
