Phony job vacancy targets LinkedIn users with DarkGate malware

Job hunters should be cautious as fake job opportunities are being used to spread malware on LinkedIn. A Vietnamese cybercrime gang is responsible for a malware campaign that involves posting bogus job adverts related to computer memory and gaming accessories firm Corsair. The attack mainly targets individuals in the United States, United Kingdom, and India who already hold social media management roles. The criminals claim to be hiring a Facebook Ads specialist at Corsair and use this guise to spread the DarkGate malware onto unsuspecting victims’ PCs. The malicious posts and direct messages on LinkedIn direct jobseekers to a password-protected ZIP archive containing various files. The DarkGate attack aims to gain high-level access to businesses’ Facebook accounts, allowing cybercriminals to exploit the accounts for ad campaigns on the social network.
