Paracetamol maker Granules India hit by ransomware attack

The Indian pharmaceutical company, Granules, which produces Paracetamol, recently reported a ransomware attack on its servers. The attack took place on May 25th and has resulted in significant financial losses for the company. Despite the attack, the IT staff has managed to restore production to normal levels and expects stock dispatching to return to normalcy by early next week. Granules India has stated that they did not pay any ransom to the criminals and were able to recover the encrypted data through a backup plan. It is important to note that cyber criminals engaging in malware spread often employ double extortion tactics, where they steal data and threaten to encrypt the entire database unless a ransom is paid. The FBI advises against paying ransoms as it encourages crime and does not guarantee a decryption key. Additionally, there is a risk of repeated attacks from the same ransomware group.
