Twitter sues companies for data scraping to corner Facebook Meta Thread

In recent news, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has introduced an app called “Thread,” which resembles Twitter in terms of features and functionality. The app is now available for free download on the Google Play Store, offering users a similar experience to what Twitter provides.

According to a report from Reuters, Twitter, under the leadership of Elon Musk, plans to take legal action against four Texas-based companies for engaging in data scraping of its tweets since June. In response, Twitter has announced restrictions on tweet views for regular users, temporarily increasing the viewing limit for premium users before revoking it at the end of last week.

Twitter is planning to sue Meta for publishing scraped content on its Thread platform, citing a violation of basic business ethics. Additionally, Twitter alleges that Meta attempted to poach its internal talent to gain access to company secrets and intellectual property. As a result, Twitter is preparing an anti-competitive lawsuit, expected to be filed by the end of this month.

Starting from July 13, 2023, Twitter has decided to block tweets containing links to the Thread app. Industry analysts predict an intensification of competition between the two companies in the coming weeks, as Musk plans to initiate a lawsuit against Meta’s new subsidiary, accusing them of inappropriately mirroring Twitter’s strategic approach.

Overall, the rivalry between Meta and Twitter continues to escalate, with legal battles and accusations of unethical practices. Both companies are determined to protect their interests and assert their dominance in the social media landscape.
